Haiti - Reconstruction : 400 houses built in 100 days
The President Michel Martelly, has conducted yesterday Wednesday, June 15, 2011, the laying the first stone of projet 400%, in the town of Zoranje, where 400 homes will be built in 100 days for the homeless of the earthquake of January 12, 2010. "It is a day of hope for the Haitian people,the hope to rebuild Haiti," declared the President Martelly while laying the first stone of these housing.

The ceremony was attended by co-chairs of the IHRC, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, the outgoing Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive, and Eduardo Almeida, representative in Haiti of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The Head of State thanked the institutions involved in the project 400%. This is the first phase of the program implemented through the Fund of Economic and Social Assistance (FAES) as part of the country's reconstruction. This program will be implemented in three phases and aims to build 2.000 homes distributed in the departments of the West, Northeast and South.

"This project is the signal of our determination to build new sustainable communities," declared the President Martelly, "The signal that shows that the country will regain its ability to put people back to work and that the local businesses will be able to become more involved in reconstruction". The determination and commitment shown by the President Martelly to transfer the people living under tents to acceptable housing have been greeted by MM. Eduardo Almeida and Bill Clinton.

The implementation of this project, for a total amount of 30 million, will be primarily coordinated by the FAES (Government of Haiti). This housing of an area of ​​35m2 each will each have a piece of land of about 100 m2 said Harry Adam, the Director of FAES, who explained "...within the framework of support plan of intervention in the housing sector, which is a response to the problem of displaced and homeless. This program, in its first phase, is officially launched today [...] it aims to improve the quality of life for low-income families affected by the earthquake of January 12. Housing to be built, will take into account not only the basic needs of shelter and security, but also the particularities of our society, our culture and our lifestyle in community.

During this first phase known as "400%", about 400 units will be built in an area of 6.8 hectares, in a record period of 100 days. This operation and all the interventions of the program, reflect the concerns of the President of the Republic and his team to solve the urgent problems of housing faced by the most vulnerable segments of the population.

[...] The implementation is ensured by the Fund of Economic and Social Assistance supported by a steering committee consisting of several players, health, education, the Ministry of Planning and institutions such as DINEPA..."
