Haiti - FLASH : Sabotage of the electrical network of the Immaculate Conception Hospital (Cayes)

The Lorquet Foundation for A New Haiti (FOLONHA), vigorously protests and is indignanted against the sabotage of the solar electrification system offered last July to the Immaculate Conception Hospital of Les Cayes, by the FRAGER Foundation directed by the entrepreneur Pierre Léger . Indeed, during the last weekend, unidentified individuals cut and stole the electric cable supplying the hospital, sabotaged the generator and looted the storage warehouse for maintenance equipment. This sabotage rendered dysfunctional for some time, the maternity ward, pediatrics, emergencies, urology and the operating room which depends on this autonomous energy system that can supply the hospital center 24 hours a day.

For FOLONHA, this sad and dishonest act once again reflects the difficulty in managing to change mentalities in Haiti and achieve endogenous and sustainable development. This action also demonstrates the determination of part of the population to appropriate collective goods and to use them in the sense of their personal interests.

Such actions risk discouraging potential benefactors and those in charge of philanthropic organizations across the country, underlines the Lorquet Foundation, which calls on the police authorities of the city of Les Cayes to launch an investigation in order to determine the perpetrators of these acts and conduct them in court in order to punish them in accordance with the law.
