Haiti - Diaspora : End of year message from the Haitian Consul in Chicago
Message from Consul Marc Yves St Victor :
"My dear compatriots, Dear friends of Haiti,
It is with great joy and enthusiasm that I address to each and every one of you at the end of a year which has been very difficult for the whole world. 2020 is coming to an end and 2021 will take over in a few days.
The year 2020 was marked by the new coronavirus, which had not only health but also economic consequences. In these difficult times, I think of all our Haitian compatriots who in one way or another had to face certain challenges related to the Coronavirus.
My dear compatriots, allow me to point out to you that a glimmer of hope is gradually emerging with the arrival and approval of certain vaccines against Covid-19. Rest assured, because happy days are looming on the horizon.
As the New Year approaches, it's time to look in the rearview mirror. On these occasions and in accordance with tradition, I would like in my personal name and on behalf of the Consulate General of Haiti in Chicago to wish you, on the one hand a very happy end of the year 2020 and on the other hand a happy and happy year 2021.
Dear Compatriots, I take this occasion of the end of the year celebrations, to renew our commitment to the Consulate to be more and more at the service of the Haitian community in our various jurisdictions, in accordance with the wish of the Head of State Mr. Jovenel Moïse.
[...] Before concluding, I would like to reaffirm to you my commitment and that of the Government that I represent here in Chicago to work tirelessly for the emergence of a more fulfilled, more united and greater community beyond our differences and our peculiarities. Also, in these festive moments in our homes, I would like to turn, in a spirit of national solidarity, with a compassionate gaze to all our compatriots who are currently fighting in certain hospitals against the harmful effects of the new Coronavirus and those facing economic and moral difficulties. I wish you a speedy recovery and urge you to be courageous.
As we can see, many challenges challenge our dear Haiti. We must meet them together, in fraternity, with respect for institutions and in the spirit of national harmony. This new year 2021 promises to be with its share of challenges, each more important than the next. Together we can and must meet them.
It is on this note of hope and solidarity that I would like to reiterate my best wishes to each and every one of you. Happy New Year 2021. May this New Year be, for all of us, a year of peace, health and prosperity.
Long live the Republic of Haiti !
Thank you. [...]"
