Haiti - Politic : Paul Denis, the Minister of Justice resigns

Paul Denis, the Minister of Justice and Public Security of the outgoing Government, and influential member of the platform INITE, has resigned yesterday for reasons of "personal convenience". Mr. Denis, does not intend to continue to liquidate the current business.

While waiting the new government, the interim will be ensured by Jean-Max Bellerive, the Prime Minister resigned and the former Director General of the institution, Joshua Pierre-Louis [Adviser of President Martelly], who will assist him as a person in charge of the mission (chargé de mission). Pierre-Louis is part of the possible candidates to the portfolio of justice in the formation of the next Government.

The resignation intervenes the same day where Paul Denis, accompanied by Mario Andrésol, Director General and Head of the National Police and several Commissioners of the Government, had to meet before the Senate Committee "Justice and Public Security", to explain, among other on the behavior considered suspect of some Commissioners of the Government...

Paul Denis did not appear before the Commission.

Youri Latortue, President of the Commission declared : "Mr. Paul Denis resigned from the Ministry [...] in this sense, he can not appear, so it's the Prime Minister [Jean Max Bellerive] who is the Acting Minister of Justice, that we will convene another week [...] given that the Director General [Mario Andrésol] was present, the Commission has sat with him to share information [...] the questions was related to the functioning of the public prosecutor. We found that there were many problems in the functioning of the public prosecutors, much abuse on the part of some Commissioners [...] we have convened them to clarify certain issues, but we were not able to do it [...] We talked to the Director General on major issues [...] on the career plans of the police officers and the police of parliament. We believe that we will have another meeting with the Director General to discuss of insurance and housing for police officers."
