Haiti - Economy : Inflation drops by half a point to 18.7% (January 2021)
The General Consumer Price Index (CPI base 100, 2017-2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26268-haiti-economy-a-new-index-of-consumer-prices-more-efficient.html which amounted to 160.1 in December 2020 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32866-haiti-economy-inflation-192-prices-go-up-december-2020.html is rose to 161.9 in January 2021 and shows monthly inflation of + 1.2% (+ 1% in December 2020) and 18.7% on an annual basis against 19.2% in December (i.e. a decrease in inflation over 12 months of - 0.5%)

The monthly increase observed in December is the result of the behavior of the consumption indices:

"Food products and non-alcoholic drinks" : (+ 1.4% over one month and 22.5% over one year);
"Clothing and footwear" : (+ 1.1% over one month and 20.9% over one year)
"Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance" (1.2% over one month and 16.8% over one year)
"Health" (1.7% over one month and 30.2% over one year)

The products which recorded the most pronounced annual inflation are :

Food :
Local rice (18.3%), imported rice (15.7%), ground corn (15.4%), goat meat (29.5%), banana (34.9%) and dry peas (30% )

Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance :
Living room furniture (21.0%), and dining room (23.8%)

Articles of clothing and footwear :
Dress (20.4%) and shirt (19.8%).

Health :
Medicines (32.7%)

It should be noted that the Consumer Price Index for local products has varied by 18.5% on an annual basis, against 19.0% for imported products.

Health: month + 1.7%, year + 30.2%
Transport: month + 0.4%, year + 6.8%
Communications: month + 0.1%, year + 3.7%
Leisure: month + 1.1%, year + 12.6%
Education: month () year + 11.8%
Restaurants: month (), year + 21.0%
Miscellaneous goods and services: month + 1.3%, year + 16.2%

CPI by geographic region (January 2021) :

In the regions, increases in the CPI are observed in all geographic regions of the country. However, the most significant variations are recorded in the regions: Metropolitan Area (19.1%), Reste-Ouest (18.7%) and North (18.7%).

Metropolitan area : month + 1.2%, year + 19.1%
(Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Pétion-ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquet);

Rest West : month + 1.2%, year + 18.7%
(Departments of the Southeast and the West without the metropolitan area);

North : month + 1.1%, year + 18.7%
(Department of North, North East and North West);

South : month + 1.4%, year + 18.0%
(Department of South, Grande-Anse and Nippes);

Cross-sectional : month + 1.1%, year + 18.6%
(Department of Center and Artibonite).
