On the occasion of this meeting, which took place on March 31, Marie Flore Monval Bourgoin, Coordinator of the "Temporary Social Safety Net and Skills for Youth" Program, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), reminded participants of the objectives of the said Program, while emphasizing its importance in the current context.

This first batch of 60 small projects of Component 1 are drawn from a list of 220 to be carried out in the communes of Cité Soleil, Port-au-Prince, Carrefour, Petit-Goâve and Miragoâne, following the conduct of consultative processes in from which the local actors, with the support of the operators, were able to reflect on their problems, identify possible solutions in the form of project ideas that they have prioritized.

The works concern, among other things, the construction of playgrounds and school fences, the rehabilitation/construction of catchments and drainage channels and retaining walls, the rehabilitation of kiosks, cultural and sports spaces.

Madame Bourgoin encouraged operators, local elected officials, community leaders and notables to combine their efforts in order to achieve successful implementation of projects for the benefit of beneficiaries.

For her part, the representative of the Pan-American Development Foundation (PADF), Kerline Pierre Rock, underlined that this first group of small projects will generate more than 4,800 jobs on an ad hoc basis in the targeted municipalities.

The HA-L1137 Program is of capital importance for the commune of Port-au-Prince and for young people in difficult situations in the areas concerned, according to the Director of Projects at the Town Hall of the Capital, Peterson Cameau who thanked the Haitian government for this decision and has promised all his support in the context of the realization of the activities of this Program.

Several community leaders including those of Belekou, Turgeau and Fontamara who took part in the meeting applauded this initiative and expressed the wish that the "Temporary Social Safety Net and Skills for Youth" Program achieves the targeted objectives. Work on Component 1 is scheduled to start next week. Regarding the criteria for selecting beneficiaries, priority is given to residents of the intervention areas, young people aged 18 to 35 who meet the following conditions, socio-economic vulnerability criteria at the rate of one person per household. They will be paid appropriately for the work provided.

Regarding the terms of payment, workers will receive their due through "Lajan Cash" and "Mon Cash", two financial platforms of the mobile phone companies "Natcom" and "Digicel", said the representative of PADF, Kerline Pierre Rock.
