Haiti - Environment : Official visit to the Park Martissant
This Wednesday, the Park Martissant received the visit of a Delegation of the European Union, of the Executive Director of the European Commission - Development and cooperation - EuropeAid (DEVCO), of representatives of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC), of the French Development Agency (AFD), of the Ministry of Works, transport and Communications (MTPTC) and of the Secretariat of the Interministerial Committee for the development of the territory.

Accompanied by the team of the Foundation Knowledge and Freedom (FOKAL), this delegation went on the ground to visit the work of the Research and Technological Group (GRET) on the ravine Leclerc. After having discussed of the issues related to drainage in the area, the visitors visited the habitation Leclerc. Downstream of the ravine Leclerc, they saw the other channels and gravel traps (dégraveurs) achieved in the park. They also visited the old hotel "residence Pauline" where the FOKAL plans to build a community center.

The project offices have welcomed the delegation to detail the various ongoing projects and identify, on a map, the Concerted Development Area (Zone d’Aménagement Concerté ZAC) and its challenges. This Concerted Development Area is currently the subject of a study of development plan, under the project management of the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications.

Finally, the visit ended with the project team of waste management funded by the European Union. The team presented their work in the area since the project began in July 2010: this work consists to educate and train students and staff of neighborhood schools, but also to set up a system of waste collection in collaboration with the Metropolitan Service of collection of solid waste (SMCRS).

The visitors were very satisfied with the visit and found that the projet of Martissant was bearer of hope, not only for the neighborhood, but also for the challenge that the reconstruction of the capital represents as a whole
