![]() Haiti - Culture : Daniel Bernard Roumain in concert Saturday in Haiti 28/07/2011 16:43:45
Emeline Michel, who will be his guest at the concert dreamed to see one day DBR in concert before the Haitian public, on his homeland "DBR is between Haiti and America. It has a large technical training but he is also an artist with a soul. [...] Our young artists need this image of people living of perfection. It is a living example of virtuoso. I absolutely wanted that the Haitian public discovers it because it is a true inspiration. More that never our young people need to see it. To exceed the limits and dare." DBR did not know what to expect upon arriving in Haiti, like many who live outside, he was the victim of preconceived ideas that it is dangerous to stay in Haiti. But lets his intuition and his desire to connect with its origins, the artist decided to settle down in Haiti for about a week. "What they told me was enough to keep me in fear, away from this country, but what I see and feel since I arrived, is the energy of a nation that seeks to recover [...] Now I can talk of Haiti myself, because I came, I see the reality [...] Haiti has always been in my life through photos, videos, and throughout its history. But all these things can not replace my presence here." Learn more about Daniel Bernard Roumain : DBR has earned a reputation of innovative composer, fusing his classical music roots with his own cultural references and a vibrant musical imagination. The New York Times describes Roumain as "about as omnivorous as a contemporary artist gets", DBR is perhaps the only composer who has collaborated and performed with Philip Glass, Cassandra Wilson, Bill T. Jones and Lady Gaga. He has received orders from Carnegie Hall, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), the Library of Congress and the sports channel ESPN. He made a passage to the show "american idol" of the US channel FOX, was elected one of the Top 100 New Yorkers (by the New York Resident) and was featured as the "new face of classical music" by Esquire Magazine. DBR has recently composed the music for the Atlanta Ballet, "Home in 7", with the choreographer Amy Seiwert and the poet Marc Bamuthi Joseph. TB/ HaitiLibre / FOKAL
