Haiti - Social : 64 Haitian voluntarily return to Haiti

The Directorate of Migration reported that 64 Haitians adults, men, women and children, were returned to their country as part of the voluntary return program sponsored by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). These 64 returns are added to the 312 other migrants returned in their country since last April.

Among the migrants supported by the Directorate of Migration assisted by IOM, 60 were from the region of Palo Verde, Guayubin in the province of Montecristi and 4 of Elias Pina.

Recall that the Haitian families who have decided to return voluntarily to Haiti [in the Departments of the North, Northeast, Northwest and Artibonite], as part of this program, are escorted by the staff of the IOM and immigration officials of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

The returnees receive a reintegration assistance from the Juanista Sisters, a religious organization based in Ouanaminthe, in the Nord-Est department. The reintegration assistance will include training on starting a business, providing start-up grants [USD$300 per person according to our source] and ongoing monitoring for up to three months.
