Haiti - Justice : Opening of the judicial re-entry, the PM committs...

On Monday October 4, 2021, the Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry, participated in the official opening ceremony of the judicial re-entry 2021-2022 in the presence of senior officials of the judicial system and members of the ministerial cabinet.

In the absence of the President of the Court of Cassation, René Sylvestre, who died last June https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34055-haiti-justice-death-of-me-rene-sylvestre-president-of-the-court-of-cassation-and-the-cspj-reactions.html, Vice-President Me Jean Claude Théogene presided over the ceremony. Of the 9 judges of the Court of Cassation only 5 were present at the ceremony. In addition to the death of Me Sylvestre, let's recall that 3 other judges had been sent to retirement by the late President Moïse (Wendelle Coq Thélot, Joseph Mécène Jean Louis and Yvickel Dabrésil) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33009-haiti-flash-president-moise-replaces-the-3-judges-involved-in-the-coup-attempt.html

Haiti is entering a new judicial year with at least 82% of the prison population in prolonged pre-trial detention and after a year in which repeated strikes by judges, prosecutors, clerks and other sector employees paralyzed its operations for several months.

In his speech for the occasion, the Head of Government invited all actors of the judicial system to tackle the problems that have plagued the country for several years, to lead to the rapid and structured recovery of republican institutions.

Henry is convinced that this must change, so that litigants regain confidence in State institutions "The judiciary faces many difficulties which weaken it and reduce every day, more, its level of confidence in litigants. We have an obligation to do everything to get our democratic institutions back to normal," calling on all the actors involved in the judicial system to do their utmost to return as quickly as possible to normal functioning of democratic institutions.

The Prime Minister has pledged to take a whole series of measures and measures, in order to provide the necessary responses for the revival and re-functioning of all state structures. After installing the new members of the Superior Council of the Judicial Power (CSPJ) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34891-haiti-justice-oath-of-the-6-magistrates-completing-the-cspj.html the Prime Minister believes that other decisions will have to be taken, after consultation, to renew the mandate of the judges who have obtained a favorable opinion from the CSPJ.
