Haiti - Insecurity : The crisis in Haiti is already affecting several countries in the region 12/10/2021 11:31:19
Ambassador Josué Fiallo, Dominican representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) and rotating President of its Permanent Council declared "In Haiti, there is a gradual deterioration of living conditions and its institutional framework, which has transformed into a growing humanitarian crisis, food insecurity, a lack of water and basic services, which are already having consequences in the Dominican Republic and in the Region." "There is a consensus on a collective concern on the part of many countries that look to the Dominican Republic for first hand information and with them we are working, both with the countries of Caricom, North America, South America and Central America, to articulate responses to the Haitian crisis," Fiallo underlined during an interview on the waves of TV Color Vision. He recalled that last January, a resolution was presented to the OAS Permanent Council, calling on political actors to engage in a national dialogue to resolve disputes and establish a roadmap to advance democratic institutions. Following this decision, a Commission of the Council visited Haiti, met with political leaders, civil society and international organizations and presented a report https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34112-haiti-politic-oas-report-and-recommendations-on-the-crisis-in-haiti.html but a few weeks later, the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse occurred https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34162-haiti-flash-president-jovenel-moise-assassinated-by-mercenaries-official-updated-7am-+-video.html and the efforts of the OAS were ineffective "In this hemisphere, Haiti is the country which is in the most precarious conditions and which causes the migration that the Dominican Republic feels more than anything directly, but it already affects Chile, Panama, Mexico, southern border of the United States" said Ambassador Fiallo. He said that after migration there is insecurity, recalling that Haiti no longer has full control of its territory.
