Haiti - Education : Partial failure of the start of the school year in the Great South
The start of the school year has partially failed in the great South. The 110 hangars with a total capacity of 440 classes, which were to serve as an alternative to the 40 severely damaged national schools to be rehabilitated or rebuilt in the 3 departments (South, Nippes and Grand-Anse) following the devastating earthquake of August 14, 2021 were not built as planned.

The contracts were indeed concluded between the National Education Fund (FNE) and the 14 firms selected by calls for tenders and then approved by the Superior Court of Accounts (CSC).

However, although these 14 companies benefiting from these duly signed contracts have started to mobilize in the 3 departments, transported materials to the sites, on their own financial resources, they have not yet received funds from the FNE provided for in the contracts to carry out the work...

Today, the population of the Great South is angry, badly informed and deceived in good faith, it wrongly accuses these firms of embezzling or stealing the funds intended for the construction of the 110 hangars while it is the FNE that does not made no disbursement, we learned from a reliable source.

All that remains is to wait for the goodwill of the FNE to allow thousands of students to receive the daily bread of education.
