Haiti - Mexico : Soon opening of a Haitian consulate in Tapachula

The Embassy of Haiti in Mexico salutes the Haitian community and informs them that the Haitian Government has decided to open at the beginning of November 2021 a consulate in Tapachula, State of Chiapas, to serve the important community Haitian present in this area.

Recall that several assessment and humanitarian assistance missions to Haitian migrants, conducted under the supervision of the Ambassador of Haiti Hugues Momplaisir Fequiere took place in southern Mexico, more frequently in the state of Chiapas.

The Embassy specifies "The opening of a consulate in Tapachula, Chiapas, the main gateway for our compatriots to Mexico, responds, among other things, to the need to provide them with a local service, to provide them with Consular assistance required and to strengthen the information, orientation and awareness-raising approach already initiated. The Mission is also studying possibilities of setting up other consular posts in the north of the country, notably in Tijuana, a State of Baja California where there is a large community of compatriots. From time to time, mobile consulates will also be put into operation to serve Haitian communities established in other parts of Mexican territory."

The Embassy recalls that since the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Claude Joseph, a permanent dialogue table between the diplomatic mission and the various Mexican bodies concerned with migration was set up on September 21 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34780-haiti-mexico-establishment-of-a-permanent-dialogue-table-on-haitian-migration.html in order to seek together a solution to the various problems generated by the current migratory situation.
