Haiti - Insecurity : The country paralyzed by a general work stoppage of public transport

The unlimited work stoppage launched last week by unions and public transport associations including among others the Association of Owners and Drivers of Haiti (APCH) and the Unified Movement of Transporters of Haiti (MUTH) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35006-haiti-flash-the-public-transport-sector-announces-an-unlimited-work-stoppage.html to denounce the growing insecurity was strongly followed in the capital and in the provinces. However, school activities were maintained in several provincial towns.

This action aimed to force the authorities to address the problem of insecurity in general and more particularly kidnappings and also to denounce the scarcity of fuel in gas stations.

In Port-au-Prince, the streets were deserted, public transport, schools and universities did not function, businesses were mostly closed out of caution, even public institutions were paralyzed. A few rare police patrols were seen on the main roads of the capital where the streets were quiet

In Petit-Goâve, there was a total paralysis of activities.

In Jacmel one have reported strong tensions on the sidelines of this work stoppage, individuals erected barricades of flaming tires, throwing stones and bottles were launched against businesses and the police, at least. a car was reportedly set on fire.
