Haiti - FLASH : The USA will intervene in the delivery of fuel in Haiti

Wednesday, October 27 in the morning, Liszt Quitel, the Minister of the Interior on the instruction of Prime Minister ai Ariel Henry, accompanied by about fifteen police officers went to the Varreux terminal in Cité Soleil, controlled by the coalition of Gangs "G9 and allies", with the aim of finding a safe corridor for trucks carrying petroleum products.

However, the Minister's procession was derouted by automatic gunfire from individuals controlling the area. Fortunately, no casualties were caused by the attack. As a result, service stations have remained closed in Port-au-Prince and in the provinces for lack of fuel.

At the same time, the emergency fuel supply to hospitals, Digicel and airport facilities, among others, started on the same day from the Thor oil terminal (Carrefour). A supply made possible by the National Police of Haiti (PNH), which escorted the tankers. Note that the Varreux oil terminal (70% of Haiti's storage capacity) still remains inaccessible and under the control of the "G9".

Faced with the situation which is beginning to become very worrying in the several public and private hospitals in the face of their inability to replenish their fuel stocks Jen Psaki, White House spokeswoman announced that the United States would help to the delivery of petroleum products to the Haitian market and will support the PNH in order to secure the roads to allow the delivery of these products to service stations and to all priority places "we’re working to do an our focus right now is on supporting the Haitian National Police. What they are trying to do is secure transportation corridors to allow for fuel deliveries.. And it is a challenge, obviously, because, as you know, Yamiche, there are parts of Haiti where it is hard to get to because of the threats of crime on the ground and challenging circumstances on the ground." However, it is not yet clear how American support on the ground will translate to ensure the delivery of fuel to Haiti.

Note that to strengthen the already existing stock of fuels, 240,000 barrels of Petroleum Products arrived Wednesday, October 27 in Port-au-Prince, aboard the RIDGEBURY ALEXANDRA Z Ship (160,000 barrels of diesel and 80,000 barrels of gasoline). Three more ships are expected in the window from October 28 to 31, 2021 in the hope that these ships will be able to unload their precious cargo, which so far for security reasons is not possible.
