Haiti - FLASH : The PM optimistic about mobilizing nearly 200 billion for post-earthquake reconstruction
This week at the Karibe Hotel, Prime Minister ai, Ariel Henry, officially launched the workshop to present the Damage, Loss and Needs Assessment Plan (PDNA) for the hard-hit South Peninsula https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34681-haiti-earthquake-latest-assessment-of-civil-protection.html by the earthquake of 7.2 on the Richter scale on August 14, 2021 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34479-haiti-flash-magnitude-72-earthquake-in-the-nippes.html . According to the official executive summary of the PDNA more than 192 billion gourdes (192,441,605,272) or ± 1.97 billion US dollars would be needed for the reconstruction of the southern peninsula.

In his speech for the occasion, Prime Minister Henry, welcomed the materialization of this work, approximately three months after the earthquake of August 14, and thanked all the local actors and the technical and financial partners who worked to achieve this document, which he describes as a coherent guide to action.

He was optimistic about the mobilization of the 192 billion gourdes needed for reconstruction and urged all actors to join forces behind this document while respecting the directives and prioritizing dialogue and consultation .

The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Haiti, Bruno Lemarquis, the Head of Operations of the World Bank in Haiti, Laurent Mselatti, the Ambassador of the European Union in Haiti, Sylvie Tabesse, the Chargé d'affaires ai of the Swiss Embassy in Haiti and Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), all congratulated the Haitian government authorities for their leadership within the framework of the PDNA.

The diplomats encouraged the Haitian leaders to seize this opportunity to reduce the vulnerability of the country and to engage in a dynamic of resilient recovery and the establishment of better living conditions for the benefit of the Haitian population.
