Haiti - Politic : The new Minister of Public Works without solution...
Rosemond Pradel the new Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC), from the opposition (choice of Fusion, "Veye yo", Verite, INIFOS and INITE) during his installation on November 25th demonstrated in his speech that he mastered few his files and offered no prospects for solutions to problems as essential as drinking water and electricity...

Extracts from Minister Pradel's speech :
"The MPTC is a department of large infrastructure. But it would be utopian of me to think of carrying out major works with such a weak economy and in a transitional period. However, it will be necessary to assess the existing situation and finalize certain projects to the extent of actual financial availability [...]

We must put in place an effective strategy through deconcentrated structures to :

1- fight the insalubrity which becomes a fact of life and which presents Haiti in a proverbial ugliness,

2- carry out small works on several sections of road in order to relieve the daily lives of motorists [...]"

Concerning the drinking water problem Pradel deplores that for years the truck tankers have been selling drinking water in most of the houses in the metropolitan area and to the solutions he declared "It is a question of consulting the officials of the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) to understand how we can extend the water distribution network to supply all households," recognizing that this cannot be done quickly "we will see with the authorities how to move forward. Because water is an important element in the life of a population".

For electricity no solution either limited to recognizing that electricity "has a lot of influence on the country's economy, on the social activities of the population" stressing "It is a heavy sector and greedy in money, money that we don't have now, but we have to go and see how the problems arise and how the people in charge are approaching the issue and what we can bring to it."
