Haiti - Politic : A Senator of G16 brings a twig of peace to the President Martelly...
Target of all criticism, the Senators of G16 are in an uncomfortable situation. The Senator Simon Desras (LAVNI) member of the G16, is part of those who feel obliged to justify. In an open letter to the President of the Republic, the Senator, beyond the flattery made to the President Martelly... bears responsibility of the failure on the former Prime Minister-designate, Me Bernard Gousse.

Simon Desras tries to explain the good founded of his vote [and that of the G16] to the eyes of the population, up to reach "a twig of Peace" to the President. Beyond an "apparent will for reconciliation", this letter hardly mask the fears [and concerns] of the Senators before a risk of confrontation [sterile conflict] with unpredictable consequences, with the Head of State.

However, it is unlikely that the Haitian people be blinded by the open letters and statements of G16... Wolves, even disguised "as ewes that carry the Peace" remains wolves.

Open letter to the President Martelly :

"Mr. the President of the Republic,

It is no secret for anyone that the repeated efforts of the executive and legislative branches, in order to put in place a space -so little modest- where we would agree, are not progressing. But, If the attempts continually reformulated in order to reach to a political modus operandi, remain so far a failure, I still believe they also carry within them the essence and undeniable proof that a participatory democracy, so far healthy, taking root in Haiti.

Believe me, Mr. the President of the Republic, I have - like you and like many of my brothers and sisters of the Senate- a heavy heart and anxious mind. But if you see me sorry of the turn of events lately, it's not for the reasons you might imagine, but because I know that a confrontation with you can not bring anything good for the country, I know also that a confrontation with us parliamentarians, could not make advance our common dreams of national construction. And finally, why have we all been elected if it is to think about the interests of our voters first ?

Be aware, Mr. the President of the Republic, that to reject Me Bernard Gousse was not a moment of glory for me or for my Senate colleagues. I am not proud, to have had to do this, as you know, I did everything to avoid a public disavowal of this designation. But be aware also, Mr President of the Republic, that if I were to do it again, I will vote again in the same way and probably even more convinced than I did there was few days, have now obtained from Me Gousse himself, the undeniable confirmation that he is definitely not the gatherer that we need at this crossroads. Moreover his schizophrenic rage towards the parliament he was trying -just twenty four hours earlier- to bring back [in his camp] by taking the values of tolerance and of political compromise of Nelson Mandela shows that he is and remain a vindictive man as we feared.

The truth, Mr. the President of the Republic, is simply that Me Gousse was unable to convince the parliamentarians whose I am one, that he was the man of wisdom and of political pragmatism, able to lead us to an inclusive transition, the only hope for a better future, both economically and socially, for our people today at bay.

Also, it is without arrogance and with a good will publicly declared -I campaigned on your side in the central plateau- and again renewed -since I wrote you publicly- that I risk to urge you to find in you the the dimension which is necessary to identify a person that will not exacerbate the fears and the clashes more deeply rooted in each of us. You know like me that we need collective solidarity. Bitterness will get us nowhere.

I know, and I'm not the only one, there are a pragmatic and magnanimous side in Michel Martelly. Revive it, Mr. the President of the Republic. I implore you, because it is only at that time, that you will see the full force of your personal charisma.

The vote against Gousse was not a vote against the President Martelly. Believe me. It was rather a vote of profound doubt on the ability of a man considered inadequate to lead the state apparatus at this critical moment of crisis post-earthquake. We have clearly explained this, my parliamentary colleagues and me. Remember. It was at our last meeting. We told you, clearly, that our intention was not to go to the opposition -far from it- but to harmonize a dynamic coexistence with a Head of Government other that Me Gousse. You agreed. Why you have returned him, since we had already approved a compromise?

Also, Mr. President of the Republic, I am writing as a citizen to tell you that I still have faith in common sense and, as a Senator of the Republic, to bring you a twig of Peace. The Group of 16 in a common patriotic spirit, as your advisers, does not have to take into account plausible personal ambitions or supposed mutual slights in the past. Beyond the political ideology of racial and social issues, it must do, like you and your close, of the future of our country its priority.

If we have an obligation to accompany you on the path of stability to achieve our common aspirations for economic progress, social progress and sustainable development, it is clear that you also have an obligation to choose a competent manager, without qualms, open to a pact of governability, for the smooth running of things.

Take the twig Mr. the President of the Republic. The country will thank you and will recognize you at the appropriate time. Me the first, because your success will be that of an entire people.

The victory obtained by the conflict can only be of short duration and the hymn to the hate would benefit really -ultimately- to anyone. Preferably, working to ensure that the peace is within our walls and that the tranquility is in our palaces.

God bless Haiti, that he guides you, for the good of our country."

Simon Desras Senator of the Republic / centre - LAVNI
