Haiti - Dominican Republic : 4th interception of transport of illegal in 5 days

The members of the specialized body of border security (CESFRONT) stopped yesterday, Sunday, a minibus of public transport the community of Carbonera, between Dajabón and Monte Cristi, reports the Dominican military authority. The driver and his assistant have managed to flee.

The Toyota minibus, carrying 40 illegal migrants undocumented, of Haitian origin [12 children, 16 women and 12 men]. Many of these migrants have declared having paid 1.500 pesos to the driver in order to drive them to Santiago. This is the fourth transport of Haitian migrants, intercepted these last 5 days.

One of the Haitian indicated that the Dominican authorities must prepare to receive a flood of Haitian immigrants, because, he said, more and more people are evicted of the tent camps by the authorities or owners, the unemployment is rising and the new government shows no sign of a new direction for the country, "The only hope for us Haitians is to cross the border to settle in the Dominican Republic, because everyone wants to leave my country and emigrate on Dominican territory..."

Without wishing to generalize this personal testimony, it reflects unfortunately the State of mind of more than one of our compatriots who have lost the hope in the future and think that they will have a better life in the neighboring country...
