A tragedy that moved His Holiness Pope Francis who at the end of the general audience on Wednesday December 15 at the Vatican declared: "In recent hours, a devastating explosion has taken place in Cap-Haitien, in northern Haiti, in which many people have lost their lives, including many children. Poor Haiti... One ordeal after another... It is a people who are suffering. Pray, pray for Haiti, they are good people, religious people, but they are suffering so much. I am close to the inhabitants of this city and to the families of the victims as well as the wounded. I invite you to join me in praying for our brothers and sisters who suffer so much." Many other reactions : https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35485-haiti-drama-of-cap-haitien-rain-of-national-and-international-messages-of-sympathy.html Text of the National Mourning Order : Official Journal "LE MONITEUR Special N°58 - Wednesday December 15, 2021 " "Considering the Decree of May 10, 2017 setting the rules relating to public ceremonies, precedence, civil and military honors; Considering the fire that occurred in Cap-Haitien on the night of December 14, 2021; Considering that this fire caused considerable loss of human life; Considering that, faced with the scale of the tragedy, it is necessary for the Government to salute the memory of those tragically deceased; Considering that for this purpose, it is necessary for the Government to declare three (3) days of mourning throughout the national territory; On the report of the Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities, the Minister of Justice and Public Security; And after deliberation in the Council of Ministers; ORDER Article 1.- December 15, 16 and 17, 2021 are declared days of national mourning throughout the national territory in memory of the people who tragically died during the fire in Cap-Haitien on the night of December 14, 2021. Article 2.- In observance of these three (3) days of national mourning, the following measures are adopted: - the half-masting of the national flag in front of public and private buildings; - the suspension of all social activities; - the closure of nightclubs and other similar establishments; - the invitation to radio and television stations to program special programs and music for the occasion.
