Haiti - FLASH Cap-Haitien : More than 120 victims, all the details of the tanker explosion (Partial toll)

At least 75 dead (60 at the site of the explosion and 15 others in the hospital), 48 injured burned and twenty houses burned, such is the partial toll revised upwards presented by the local authorities, of the explosion of a tanker truck filled with fuel in Cap-Haitien in the night from Monday to Tuesday https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35473-haiti-flash-explosion-of-a-tanker-truck-in-cap-haitien-at-least-40-dead-videos.html

21 seriously injured (more than 60% burned) were transferred by helicopter to hospitals in Port-au-Prince (Médecins sans Frontières), Mirebalais and Hinche, a field hospital has been deployed in Cap Haitien confirmed Dr Lauré Adrien, Director General of the Ministry of Health. The others injured are in several hospitals in the department, including Justinien Hospital, Baptist Convention Hospital and Sacré Cœur de Milot Hospital.

According to Patrick Almonor, the deputy mayor of Cap-Haitien, the driver of the tanker tried to avoid a motorcycle taxi before losing control of his vehicle which overturned.

Despite warnings from the tanker driver of the risk of an explosion, locals, armed with hammers, drilled holes in the tank of the truck and began to take away the gasoline. It only took a few minutes for the fuel that spilled into the Laforcet Canal to reach the rubbish that was burning nearby causing the tragic explosion, reports the National Human Rights Defense Network.

On Monday, Prime Minister Ariel Henry accompanied by members of the Government and a large number of doctors and rescuers went to Cap-Haitien, at the bedside of our compatriots victims of this tragedy to see the state of the situation declaring "[...] the Government and the public authorities have been mobilized. Emergency funds have been released. Measures will also be taken to organize state funerals for the victims."
