Haiti - Religion : Rampage of the Cathedral, unanimous condemnation
A team of forensic experts, accompanied by Me Aviol Fleurant [lawyer of the Conference of Haitian Bishops] is arrived Tuesday in Cap-Haitien (North) to conduct a survey of evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Jean Zacheee Duraci, Representative of the Episcopal Church within the coallition "Religion for the Peace", asks the police authorities to make every effort to apprehend the perpetrators of these acts of vandalism made on August 6. "The Muslim, voodoo, Protestants and all other religious denominations are together with the Catholic Church, in this event."

Pastor José Simeon, of the Baptist Church Lumière du Cap, express the wish that the justice triumphs and that the population is able to make the difference between the true and the alleged Protestants and that it avoids to be manipulated by people who have already identified the culprits in order to provoke violence and divide the Christian family."

Max Beauvoir, the chief of voodoo sector, believes that people who committed this acts, should be render harmless.

Mgr Pierre André Dumas, the Archbishop of Miragoâne/Anse-à-veau speaks of religious pluralism and argues that there is no place in our society for these abhorrent practices. He argues that any attack against a member of the "Religion for the Peace" is considered as an attack against the coalition.

Father Gabriel Louis Blot, PhD in sociology of religion, said that the sabotage of the Cathedral Notre Dame du Cap-Haïtien, could be the work of adepts of fundamentalist movements. On how to defuse a possible religious conflict in Haiti, he suggests the dissemination "of a speech on religious tolerance in order to bring the Christians to realize that there are many more points of convergence than divergence between them."

For its part, the Office of Citizen Protection as part of its mission to promote and protect human rights urged the perpetrators of this attack to comply with the prescribed of the Constitution and to abandon all practices of violence in favor of a culture of understanding and mutual respect.

3 days after the profanation and ransacking of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame du Cap-Haitien, the Commissioner Joany Canéus has been replaced by Hervé Julien which becomes the new Director of the National Police of Haiti for the Northern Department.
