Hope of Senator Joseph Lambert
"I have the hope that we will come to admit that we are a great people. Hope to build living together. We have to get rid of this feeling of helplessness in order to take responsibility. This is where this hope for 2022 lies. 218 years of independence, in the expression of a claimed dignity, negritude was imposed on January 1st, 1804. We are, today, the heirs of this heritage that we have the duty and the obligation to preserve and enrich. We have a duty to build our country. We have to invent new ways of doing things to live together. We cannot continue to do the same things and repeat the same mistakes which will certainly lead to the same results."

"I thank Mgr Yves Marie Péan, Bishop of Gonaives and Mgr Victesse Nicolas, Vicar General of the Cathedral who, despite the tense situation that reigned in the city, did their duty, within the framework of the celebration of 218th anniversary of national independence, to sing the traditional Te Deum which took place in the church of Saint Charles Borromeo.
