Haiti - Economy : Annual inflation 24.7%
The General Consumer Price Index (CPI, 100 in 2017-2018) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34906-haiti-economy-acceleration-of-the-rise-in-prices-for-2-months.html went from 197.5 in November 2021 to 199.5 in December 2021 (latest information available). This results in a monthly increase of +1% against +4.7% in November, or 24.7% year-on-year against 24.6% the previous month…

The monthly increase observed in December 2021 is mainly the result of the behavior of the following consumption indices :

"Food products and non-alcoholic beverages”: +1.2% over one month and 26.3% over one year;
"Clothing and footwear": +1.4% over one month and 25.8% over one year;
"Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels": +5.1% over one month and 21.2% over one year
"Health": +0.6% over one month and 26.7% over one year.
"Transport": +16.1% over 1 month and 22.9% over one year

Products with more pronounced annual inflation:

Power:
Rice (on average 39.8%), meat (26.5%), milk powder (33.1%), edible oil (57.7%), lemon (36.8%), banana (32.5%), peas (23.2%) and sugar (26.7%).

Clothing and footwear:
Dress (on average 32.9%), shirt (25.9%), pants for men (29.2%).

"Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels"o:
Housing rent (average 19.3%), water (30.4%), charcoal (31.3%), propane gas (50.4%), kerosene (116%)

Health:
Medicines (on average 30.9%) and glasses with corrective lenses (21.9%).

It should be noted that a greater increase in prices was observed at the level of imported products, i.e. 33.7% year-on-year against 19.7% for local products.

General index: 24.7% over one year and +1.0% for the month of December 2021

Food and non-alcoholic beverages: month -1.2%, year +26.3%
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: month -0.3%, year (12.3)%
Clothing and footwear: month +1.4%, year +25.8%
Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels: month +5.2%, year +26.6%
Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance: month -0.4%, year +23.9%
Health: month +0.6%, year +26.7%
Transport: month +16.1%, year +22.9%
Communications: month (), year +4.6%
Leisure: month +0.1%, year +14.3%
Education: month (), year +9.0%
Restaurants: month (), year +29.3%
Miscellaneous goods and services: month -0.1%, year +24.7%

Global CPI: 2020 December 19.2%; 2021 January 18.7%; February 17.9%; March 17.2%. April 16.0%; May 14.5%; June 12.7%; July 12.3%; August 10.9%; September 13.1%; October 19.7%; November 24.6%; December 24.7%

CPI for Local Products: 2020 December 19.1%; 2021 January 18.5%; February 17.3%; March 16.9%; April 15.7; June 11.8%; July 10.8%; August 9.3%; September 10.9%; October 16.2%; November 20.4%; December 19.7%

CPI of Imported Products: 2020 December 19.3%; 2021 January 19.0%; February 18.3%; March 17.5%; April 16.5%; June 14.2%; July 14.9; August 13.8%; September 17.1%; October 26.1; November 32.3%; December 33.7%

CPI by geographic region (September 2021):

All regions therefore contributed to the increase in inflation for the month of December 2021 for the country as a whole. It should be noted, however, that the most significant regional variations compared to October 2021 are observed for the Rest West 26.1% and the South 26.5%.

Metropolitan area: year 23.9%
(Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Pétion-ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquet);

Rest West: year 26.1%
(South-East and West Departments without the metropolitan area);

North: year +23.6%
(North, North East and North West Department);

South: year +26.5%
(Department of the South, Grande-Anse and Nippes);

Transversal: year +24.1%
(Department of Center and Artibonite).
