Haiti - Assassination of the President : Towards the extradition to the USA of former Senator Joseph Joël John 25/03/2022 09:27:34
Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Jeremy Taylor, advised the court that with respect to the charge of illegal entry by John and his family into Jamaican territory, there must be consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions on how to proceed, the matter was adjourned to April 5, 2022. In addition, ex-Senator Joseph accepted the extradition request sent by the United States and presented by Me Jeremy Taylor to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. A provisional arrest warrant has been issued for Joseph under the extradition treaty between the United States and Jamaica. The former Senator has waived his right to an extradition hearing, confirmed his lawyer Me Donahue Martin. Let's recall that Joseph is accused in Haiti of having rented four vehicles which were used by the Colombian commando on the night of the presidential attack. In addition Me Martin added that there was no trace of an extradition request from Haiti to the court despite the fact that in Haiti the authorities claim to have made such a request... However, the court is not expected to issue its decision immediately, as the United States has 60 days to file evidence of John Joël Joseph's involvement in the assassination of President Moïse. Let's recall that the wife and children of the former Senator filed an application for asylum in Jamaica in early March 2022 because of threats to their lives if they were repatriated to Haiti, but no decision has been taken for the time regarding this request.
