Haiti - FLASH : Palacio extradited to the USA, first official indictment in the assassination of President Moïse

Palacios took the plane as planned on Monday to Colombia, however, he never arrived to his homeland.
During a layover in Panama, Interpol informed Palacios that the United States Government was extraditing him, General Jorge Luis Vargas, Director of the Colombian Police said, adding that Colombia, Jamaica and the United States were in contact to coordinate the deportation and extradition of Palacios to the United States.
Palacios arrested Monday evening, flown to Miami has "accepted voluntary extradition" to the United States, according to the head of the Panamanian migration services, Samira Gozaine.
On Tuesday afternoon, appearing in Miami District Court Mario Antonio Palacios speaking Spanish through an interpreter, was charged by the United States Department of Justice for his alleged involvement with conspiracy to commit murder or kidnapping outside the US in connection with the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse. Note that this is the first official indictment in this case.
U.S. prosecutors said the plot against Moise "was initially aimed at the kidnapping of the President but then the plan would have changed and the group, under the leadership of a man identified as 'Co-Conspirator Number 1' (in detention in Haiti ), would have been responsible for killing Jovenel Moïse.
According to a report from the National Police of Haiti (PNH) published last August, Palacios was part of a group of five men called "the Delta team" who entered Jovenel Moïse's bedroom and shot him down. The other four members are currently in detention in Haiti.
If convicted, Palacios faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment in the United States.

For his part, the former Prime Minister Claude Joseph declared "I take note of the arrest of Mario Palacios in Panama and of his current detention in the United States. It is a step in the right direction. I urge the Haitian authorities to collaborate with the American authorities so that, within the framework of the extradition treaty of August 9, 1904, this main suspect in the assassination of President Jovenel is extradited to Haiti to answer the questions of Haitian justice."
