Haiti - Insecurity : Surge of violence in Desdunes

Yesterday, Monday, in the commune of Desdunes, Lesly Leroy, an agent III [6th promotion], opened fire on a man who resisted during an attempted arrest, said Frantz Lerebours, Commissioner and spokesperson of the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

The victim, Jean Robert Racine, aged 34, was rushed to the hospital of Saint Nicolas (Saint-Marc), then transferred to the General Hospital of Port-au-Prince to receive appropriate care. Frantz Lerebours has denied rumors that suggested that the wounded had died.

Following this arrest that gone wrong, the people angry, burned the police station. Unidentified, burned all the archives and brought out the prisoners who were in custody, before going to the house of the mother of the police officer and burn her house.

In this situation of riot, agents of the Departmental Unit for the Maintenance of Order (UDMO) have had to be deployed to stop the outbreak of popular violence. Frantz Lerebours, announced the strengthening of the police presence but the situation remains high in the town. Police officials have launched an appeal for calm to the population.

Fearing for his life, the agent, Lesly Leroy was placed in a safe place has indicated the Commissioner Lerebours.
