Friday, April 22, in the Gardens of the Haitian National Pantheon Museum (MUPANAH), at the Champ de Mars, the Government through the Ministries of Culture and Education paid tribute to Jacques Stephen Alexis alias "Compère Général Soleil" as part of the centenary of his birth in the presence, among others, of Ministers Nesmy Manigat (Education), Ms. Emmelie Prophète Milcé (Culture), Jean Victor Généus (Foreign Affairs), Ricard Pierre (Planning, Ms. Luz Kurta Cassandra François (Tourism), Josué Dahomey the Ambassador of Haiti in France, Jude Charles Faustin Secretary General of the Primature, members of the diplomatic corps, the Chargé d'Affaires of Spain in Haiti and several Directors General of public administration.

A beautiful ceremony marked by speeches, music, dance and storytelling performances without forgetting a mini documentary where the Minister of Culture, the academician Dany Laferrière, Professor Hérold Toussaint, the Minister of Education camp this character "potomitan".

In his speech the Minister Manigat declared "[...] a country which produces Jacques Stephen Alexis cannot die [...] the aesthetics of the writing and the word of this writer as well as the ethics of his action challenge even today, and this in a very strong way. This upright man, an apostle of total freedom, still calls today on the 12 million Haitians to reclaim the lost spaces of freedom. Alexis, this great friend of Man, calls for the strengthening of collective intelligence in order to put the country back on track" For the Minister Jacques Stephen Alexis is a sacred heritage for Haiti and this year, he intends to use 2 texts of this writer in the next official baccalaureate exams.

For the Minister of Culture, "Talking about Jacques Stephen Alexis is about gender equality, democracy, living together, freedom of expression, heritage, and marvelous realism. Thanks to the ideas of Jacques Stephen Alexis, we have the desire and the desire, we need to change our country [...]"

The dancers of the Ballet of the National Theater of Haiti under the direction of the Director General, Yves Pénel, fascinated the public without counting the major performance of the children of the National Institute of Music of Haiti (INAMUH) who interpreted classical pieces and Haitian folklore under the supervision of virtuoso Pierre Rigaud Chéry.

In the evening, at the Royal Oasis Hotel (Pétion ville), in the presence of the Head of Government a.i. Ariel Henry, and several Ministers, this day of glorification of the author of "Romancero aux étoiles" ended.

In a harmony of words, the Ministers Nesmy Manigat (Education) and Ms. Emmelie Prophète Milcé (Culture) again, magnified Jacques Stephen Alexis at the same level as Dany Laferrière, Hérold Toussaint who did it with speaking sincerity in a small film of testimonies dedicated to this immense Haitian personality.

The guests attended a show "Kat kout bagèt pou onore memwa Jak Solèy". One played by Haitian actors from the Palto Vanyan theater company, directed by John Moïse alias "John Vanyan" in a text by Rodolphe Mathurin alias "Sonson".

For an hour the actors of Palto vanyan offered the public a journey through the history of Haiti and the work of Jacques Stephen Alexis and winks to Jacques Roumain and his book "Gouverneur de la rosée".

Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who did not speak during the tribute evening at the Oasis hotel, published on his twitter account "On this day of April 22, the Nation must be grateful to this symbol commitment, resistance, struggle for change, for this new Haiti, for the dignity of the Haitian man. Thank you, General Soleil, cantor of beautiful human love, for this immense heritage that we claim."
