Haiti - Irene : Update on the situation in the country (1) 23/08/2011 17:35:35
Resume : - 25 shelters are open, only one (École nationale de Ferrier) is occupied by 500 people - Monday afternoon, 36 inmates were transferred from the prison of the Gonaïves to that of Saint-Marc. The operation continued today. The Town Hall of Gonaïves has five (5) buses for the evacuation of prisoners; - In the Northeast, a landslide and localized rains are reported, but also in the Northern Department (Limbé, Cap-Haitien, Plaisance and Pilate). - The Trois-Rivières in the Northwest are in flood while records intermittent rain in several communes of the department; - All structures of the Risk Management System are mobilized. Many temporary shelters are open. Department of Nord : Weather situation : Heavy rains in the towns of Cap-Haitien, Grande Rivière du Nord, Ranquitte, La Victoire; Damage recorded : fields are devastated at the level of Plaisance Department of Northwest : Weather situation : Heavy rain across the department. Rising tide to Saint Louis du Nord. Flooding of 3 Rivières in Bassin Bleu, Port de Paix and Chansolme. Flooding of the Rivières des Barres in Saint Louis du Nord; Damage recorded: NTR Department of Northeast : Weather situation : Heavy showers are recorded. Damage recorded: Landslides were reported in Mont-Organisé and Vallière, where roads are cut off. Department of the Centre : Weather situation : The weather is partly cloudy across all municipalities. Rain on Hinche; Damage recorded: NTR Department of Artibonite : Weather situation : Sky is partially covered. Intermittent rainfall recorded to Marmalade; Damage recorded: NTR Department of Grand'Anse: Weather situation : Moderate rains on Jérémie, Beaumont, the sea is rough, especially on the islands Cayemites. Light winds throughout the department.
