Haiti - Insecurity : Disrupted activities at the Varreux terminal, 6 tankers hijacked

Sunday May 1st, 2022, thanks to the arrival of two boats carrying more than 12 million gallons of fuel for the Varreux and Thor terminals https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-36564-haiti-economy-more-than-12-million-gallons-of-fuel-arrived-this-weekend.html , the Varreux terminal was able to load 442,400 gallons of Gasoline into tank trucks.

However, on Monday all activities were suspended due to the intensification of armed clashes between the "400 Mawoso" and "Chen Mechan" gangs and the widening of the conflict in Cité Soleil with clashes between the "G-pèp la” led by "Ti Gabriel" (opposed to the G9 coalition) and the "Belecou" gangs led by Isca in Cité-Soleil and the Boston Gang led by Mathias Saintil affiliated with the G9.

On Tuesday, a few loaded tankers were able to leave the Varreux terminal before delivery operations were again suspended due to renewed tension in the area. Armed groups hijacked 6 tank trucks filled with fuel.

Later, the National Police of Haiti (PNH) sent an armored vehicle to allow the resumption of loading and delivery activities.

We are informed that several tank trucks have been blocked in Santo since Sunday due to the armed conflict, which will delay the supply of certain service stations.
