Monday, May 9 Frantz Elbé, Acting Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) at a press conference presented the results of his first six months at the head of the police institution https://www.haitilibre.com/ article-35055-haiti-security-new-dg-of-png-installs-after-the-resignation-of-leon-charles.html and short- and medium-term future prospects. Elbé seemed satisfied with the institution's efforts to deal with the phenomenon of insecurity.
4,998 arrests for various offences, including theft, murder, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, 94 bandits fatally injured in exchanges of fire, 1 boat seized in the context of the fight against drugs, 25 kilos of cocaine seized, 658 kilos of marijuana, 234 firearms seized, 21 motor vehicles recovered and 20 motorcycles confiscated; 78,520 US dollars and 34,220,575 gourdes seized are some of the achievements during the past 6 months.
Regarding the clashes between gangs during the month of April, the deployment of the security forces led to the arrest of 54 individuals, 3 police officers were injured, several bandits were fatally injured, 16 firearms seized as well only 7 motor vehicles and 10 motorcycles.
Frantz Elbé, took the opportunity to send a strong signal to the bandits, whatever their affiliation, while reminding them that the PNH is hard at work to constrain them and defeat their plan.
Regarding the strengthening of the operational capacities of the PNH, Elbé declared that "The Government has just made considerable disbursements to acquire equipment and materials for the police institution".
