Haiti - Justice : Sonel Jean-François sacked

After the removal, end of June of Me Harrycidas Augustus, the Commissioner of the Government, at the heart of the scandal of the death of the accused, Serge Démosthène, following to the police brutalities in the file on the assassination of the President of the Board of Directors of the Banque Nationale de Credit (BNC), Guiteau Toussaint, Sonel Jean-François [one of the substitutes of Commissioner] had been appointed, Acting Commissioner of the Government.

Yesterday Sonel Jean-François received his letter of resignation signed by the hand of the outgoing Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive, the latter accuses the commissioner of "serious violation" of the constitution, in the case of the convening of Minister of the Interior and Territorial Collectivities (MICT).

We read in this letter "By deciding to put under examination (mettre en examen) the Minister of the Interior and Territorial Collectivities, Mr. Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, for acts committed in the exercise of his duties, you have deliberately committed a serious violation of Article 186, paragraph 2, of the Constitution, such jurisdiction returning to the Chamber of Deputies."

M. Bellerive also states that "You had the opportunity to correct your attitude. Unfortunately you have ignored it" the the outgoing Prime Minister reminded him his role as Commissioner of the Government "By doing this, you are guilty of blatant abuse of power, whereas your role was precisely to defend the Constitution and to be the guardian of the sacred rights of the citizen."

"So I have regret to inform yo that you are, upon receipt of this letter, dismissed from your position as substitute of commissioner of the government at the Civil Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince and relieved of your duties of Acting Commissioner of the Government." concludes the letter.
