Haiti - World Bank : Signing of 3 donation agreements totaling US$66 million

Thursday, Michel Patrick Boisvert, Minister of Economy and Finance for the Haitian Government and Laurent Msellati, Head of Operations of the World Bank in Haiti, proceeded to the signing of three donation agreements totaling an amount of 66 million US dollars for the health and disaster risk management sectors. This is additional funding for three ongoing projects, which is directly in line with the priority given by the World Bank to respond to the various crises affecting Haiti and which contribute to increasing vulnerability and fragility that characterize the Haitian economy.

In the health sector, additional funding of $35 million was approved on May 23, 2022, for the Haiti Covid-19 Pandemic Response Project, followed on June 16 by the approval of additional funding of 20 million for the Project to Strengthen Primary Health Care and Surveillance in Haiti (PROSYS English acronym) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-36949-haiti-world-bank-additional-funding-of-$20m-for-the-strengthening-of-primary-health-care.html . Finally, on May 26, 2022, the Board of Directors of the World Bank allocated additional funding of 11 million for the Risk Management and Resilience to Climate Hazards Project (PGRAC).

A large part of this additional financing represents the World Bank's contribution to the National Program for the Recovery and Reconstruction of the Southern Peninsula hard hit by the earthquake of August 14, 2021. During the February 2022 donors' conference, the Bank World has pledged to provide approximately 200 million USD to support the Haitian Government's response https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35978-haiti-flash-the-pm-obtains-promises-of-international-commitment-of-$600-million.html

With the signing of these three Grant Agreements, the entire amount is now available to the Haitian Government to implement the program as soon as possible and to complete the interventions already underway.
