Haiti - FLASH : Back to school threatened by gangs

The Ministry of National Education strongly condemns the kidnapping Sunday afternoon of 3 of its employees of the Ministry's payment service as well as in the evening of the Director General of the National Office for Partnership in Education (ONAPE) Hervé Boursiquot.

The Ministry expresses its deep concern over an ever-growing deleterious situation where attacks and threats are increasing against schools, school principals, Ministry offices and other support institutions.

The deterioration of the security climate and the difficulty for the employees of the Ministry to go to their places of work and provide their services on a daily basis can have serious consequences on all the planning of the start of the school year and the measures intended to facilitate the start of the school year, fixed to October 3rd, 2022 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37497-haiti-flash-date-of-the-start-of-the-2022-2023-school-year-postponed-official.html

The Ministry of National Education wishes to recall that about thirty schools were attacked, vandalized and looted https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37698-haiti-demonstrations-more-than-twenty-schools-vandalized-looted-and-damaged.html causing many losses of materials such as computers, books, school supplies, desks, benches, archives and others intended to serve children and provide food in schools.

To which must be added the looting of food reserves in other national and international organizations to supply services in school canteens https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37714-haiti-insecurity-the-un-calls-for-an-immediate-end-to-the-looting-of-humanitarian-supplies.html
