Haiti - Health : The number of confirmed cholera cases strongly increased 12/10/2022 09:38:50
Situation of cholera as of October 8, 2022 and its progression in Haiti, according to the Department of Epidemiology, Laboratories and Research (DELR) of the Ministry of Public Health, (latest data available) : October 7 and 8 period : Total suspected cases: 224 cases +31.7% (October 6: 170 cases) Total confirmed cases: 32 cases +68.4% (October 6: 19 cases) Total suspected cases hospitalized: 189 cases +40% (October 6: 135 cases) Total institutional deaths: 16 deaths +220% (October 6: 5 cases) Note that due to travel difficulties and insecurity (access to areas controlled by gangs and urban guerrilla areas) this assessment is partial. Probable case: Any suspected case with a positive rapid diagnostic test (validated by the LNSP) Confirmed Case: Any suspect or probable case with a positive culture for “Viri cocholerae” Hospitalized case: Any suspected, probable or confirmed case that spends at least 24 hours in a care institution Institutional Death: Any suspected, probable or confirmed case who dies in a care institution Community Death: Any suspected case that dies outside a care institution MSF News : In the capital Port-au-Prince and its surroundings, Médecin Sans Frontière (MSF) has opened three treatment centres: a 10-bed center in the Brooklyn neighborhood, a 20-bed center in the Turgeau neighborhood and a 50 beds in the MSF hospital in Cité Soleil. MSF has also opened several rehydration points. Currently, the Cité Soleil center can still receive new patients with cholera; but the other two centers have reached their maximum capacity.
