Haiti - Politic : The statements are multiplying around the Dr. Conille
The Grouping of Parliamentarians for Change (PRC) constituted earlier this week claiming to be the new majority in the lower house, has appointed yesterday, 12 deputies to meet the President of the Republic and Prime Minister-designate, Dr. Garry Conille. "We are ready to meet the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister-designate at their convenience, in order to ratify it, if his documents are in compliance with the constitution of 1987" stated Fritz Chéry, leader of the RPC.

According to Senator Francisco de la Cruz [Centre], the question of the residence of the candidate for Prime Minister's Office could be the cause of his rejection. Although less virulent than his colleague Jean William Jeanty, he is categorical "an international civil servant can not benefit from the principle of extraterritoriality," a position that could be shared by his political platform [Alternative]. However, Senator de la Cruz says he is ready to ratify the choice of the Head of State if the documents of the Prime Minister-designate meets the requirements of section 157 of the Constitution.

The Deputy Jean Tholbert Alexis [Croix-des-Bouquets / Thomazeau / Ansanm nou fô] and President of Parliamentary Group for Renewal (GPR) declared "...it is unequivocally, that the GPR in the lower house, will vote for Garry Conille vote, therefore our position is already arrested when we heard the Prime Minister we saw his opening, what he thinks, he said that he will work with the Deputies, that there is no cleavage, that he will be open and available. He had asked to the Deputies to ask him questions, nearly 12 deputies have asked questions [...] he told us that once he is ratified we will be a force of pressure, to allow him to go to the international and claim the disbursement promised [...] I really see that he has a desire to work..."

The Senator Jean William Jeanty [Nippes / Konbit pou Bati Ayiti - KONBA] remains strongly opposed to the ratification of the Prime Minister-designate. "I do not know what Mr. Conille will do, or the tendency of other Senators, just for me, Gary Conille symbolizes guardianship, he symbolizes all that we believe that should not be done in the country, because what must be done, is to enter a process to recover our fundamental rights. The problem that we have is that it is not the Haitians who decide for themselves. Mr Conille is a person who came in the suitcase of Mr. Clinton, can you imagine if Mr. Conille becomes Prime Minister, he will co-chair the IHRC with Mr. Clinton. He is the representative of the United Nations, it is the United Nations which put M. Conille here, so there is no one who can guarantee me that if he became Prime Minister, he will defend the interests of Haiti..."

After a meeting with the candidate for Prime Minister B>the Deputy Patrick Joseph [INITE - Artibonite, North], expressed satisfaction, saying that Dr. Conille "seems to have the qualities of a good prime minister", however he prefers to await the verdict of the Special Committee of ratification before deciding.

For the Senator Kély C. Bastien [North] "...there is a possibility that in the coming days, I could tell in the coming hours, we could meet with Prime Minister-designate. But now we want to leave the latitude to the House of Deputies to discuss, to negotiate because the priority is at the Chamber of Deputies, but as one does not prevent the other if there is a possibility to meet the Prime Minister-designate nd to discuss with him, we are ready. [...] I know that the half or more, of the Group of 16 Senators are in favor, but that does not allow me to say that the G16 will vote for, because we do not make a majority vote within the Group, we seek a consensus [...]"

Sauveur Pierre Étienne, General Coordinator of the OPL of Alternative explains that the position of his organization has always been clear "...us of the OPL, of the Alternative our position has always been clear, if the documents submitted by the Prime Minister-designate meets the requirements of the Constitution, we will ratify the choice of the President. Naturally, there are two steps : he ratification and if all goes well at the level of the ratification, we'll see how will be oriented the declaration of general policy of Prime Minister and if the Prime Minister designate and the President of the Republic believe that the Alternative can provide support to future government... we will see under what conditions..."
