Haiti - Environment : The collection of native seeds of Haiti continues

As part of the Government's policy to strengthen plant and forest cover in Haiti, the Ministry of the Environment (MDE) through the Directorate of Forests and Renewable Energies (DFER) continues to collect seeds from forest trees and fruit trees in several departments of the country

DFER technicians have started at Delmas 31, in the Saint-Louis de Gonzague establishment, a first session of evaluation of Mahogany trees (Swietenia Macrophylla and Mahogani). These tree species are in high demand for agroforestry systems and the conservation of tropical forests, including public and private forests.

The collection continues at the level of Saint-Louis de Gonzague and the seeds collected will be processed and sent to the various forest and fruit germplasm centers and the community nurseries of the Ministry of the Environment throughout the national territory.
