Haiti - Grand'Anse : On the verge of famine 16/02/2023 09:10:25 "We are in a context where the situation risks turning into a disaster. A famine is to be feared if nothing is done Since I have been working in the field for 'Concorde Haïtienne de Sécurité Alimentaire et Nutritionnelle' (CHSAN), this is the first time I have seen such a situation. Soaring prices of basic food products. On the other side, the rain which hardly falls whereas here, agriculture depends on it. What people consume comes from agriculture and imports," said agronomist Joseph Nesly. In the current context CHSAN proposes emergency actions including: - Food assistance for the most vulnerable groups based on certain criteria such as malnourished children, children in schools, pregnant and breastfeeding women; households with one or more disabled or chronically ill members. - Support agricultural activities by distributing seeds of peas, stump peas, unknown peas, potatoes (especially short cycle varieties). - Integrate food distribution activities in kind or in cash. intensify assistance to households for the development of their plots.
