Haiti - Politic : Dr. Garry Conille met the FENAMH

Sunday, the Prime Minister-designate, Dr. Garry Conille, met behind closed doors, about twenty mayors, members of the National Federation of Haitian Mayors (FENAMH). During the meeting, the Federation has presented to the Prime Minister-designate, the problems faced by local authorities, especially that of the decentralization.

For Moise Charles Pierre, Mayor of Fort Liberté and President of the FENAMH "...it was necessary that the Dr. Conille can make a meeting with the communities as part of the development that he will do in the country in order to obtain a guarantee of mayors, in the work that he will do [...]"

The mayors, for their part, have required that the budget of communities, is decentralized, so that they can support themselves. The Dr. Conille acknowledged that the development is through by the stability of various municipalities and promised [if he's ratified] an increase in the allocation for municipalities for the coming budget year, which would increase from 8 million to 50 million gourds.

Yvon Jérôme, the Mayor of Carrefour, said he was satisfied with this meeting "it's the first time that someone as important consult with national in order to land his vision [...] we discussed on the framework law on decentralization and it is extremely important for the functioning of the town hall, but also the existence of the municipalities in the national budget [...] the time has come to focus our strengths and our energies towards a conjunctural alliance not to destroy, as we usually do but to build."
