PNH : 9 bandits mortally wounded

As part of Operation Tornado 1 and thanks to information from the population, during a strong police intervention carried out on the night of April 17 to 18, 2023 in Montagnac, a locality in the commune of Dame-Marie (Dept. Grand'Anse), 9 bandits including a "mambo" who was an accomplice according to testimonies, were mortally wounded in the exchange of fire with the police. Several arrests were made and firearms seized (the PNH did not provide further details).

The former CAS Chief Accountant in prison

Tuesday April 18, 2023, Pierre Richard Vales, the former Chief Accountant of the Social Assistance Fund (CAS), banned from leaving the territory https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39313-haiti-news-zapping.html was arrested and detained in the national penitentiary, after his hearing by the examining magistrate Jean Wilner Morin. Phone salesman shot dead

A young mobile phone seller was shot dead and several high school students came out injured, during a demonstration organized in the city of Cap Haitien, by high school students to demand the presence of teachers in the classrooms who started a strike movement since April 17 to demand better working conditions.

38% of displaced persons taking refuge in 51 sites

For the month of March, IOM counted 127,977 Internally Displaced Persons in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. 38% of them settled in the 51 sites scattered in the capital, while 62% would find refuge in the host communities. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) continues its assistance and relocation activities for the benefit of the poorest families. WFP Aims for 100% Local School Meals

In 2023, WFP's goal is to increase the number of students receiving locally produced meals to 182,000, which will be achieved during the month of April. By 2030, the WFP aims for 100% of the ingredients for the school meals in Haiti that it supports to be of local origin.

None of the sanctioned Haitians is on Dominican soil

On Tuesday, April 18, the Dominican General Directorate of Migration (DGM) revealed that none of the 39 Haitians sanctioned by the Dominican State https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39320-haiti-flash-39-haitians-banned-from-entering-the-dominican-republic-list.html is not located in the Dominican Republic. Immigration officers have been ordered to arrest on Dominican soil all persons sanctioned by the Government.
