Haiti - Politic : Signing of a cooperation framework of more than 1.1 billion dollars

Thursday, April 20, 2023, the United Nations Country Team and the Haitian Government proceeded to the Hotel Karibe, to the signing of the United Nations Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development 2023-2027, with a view to a response collective of the UN in Haiti to support the implementation of the 2030 commitment for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39344-haiti-politic-the-un-in-haiti-signs-a-5-year-cooperation-framework-for-sustainable-development.html (21 United Nations agencies have approved this plan)

The estimated budget for this cooperation framework amounts to more than 1.1 billion US dollars (1,149,38,582.00), of which 40% is available resources and 60% remains to be mobilized.

In her speech, Maria Isabel Salvador, the new special representative of the United Nations General Secretariat and also head of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) promised to play her full part in this program aimed at bringing Haiti towards prosperity while guaranteeing human rights and gender equality. She said she was counting on the full involvement of the United Nations Country Team, the Haitian Government and other national and international partners.

Ulrika Richardson, Deputy Special Representative of BINUH and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Haiti, also reaffirmed the will of the United Nations to support Haiti on the path to progress " We have no right to fail, the situation is critical, the stakes are high, we cannot go it alonee who hopes that all the players will get actively involved in order to achieve the SDGs.

Ricard Pierre, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, described the signing of this underlining document as an act of commitment. "We must all be aware of the challenges that await us in the implementation of this new cooperation framework which calls for the pooling of resources from all sides in order to fill the gaps due to the delays incurred by Haiti [...] The time is serious, it will take frank cooperation, total involvement on the part of the actors if we want to achieve the expected results."

Minister Pierre specified "This plan plans to produce 5 major effects in terms of results : governance and rule of law, justice and human rights, inclusive economic model, basic social services, environment, multidimensional risk management and territorial governance," which reiterates the Government's commitment alongside the United Nations in the pursuit of results."
