Haiti - Economy : Cry of alarm from the main employers' associations of the country
The main employers' associations of the country and the Regroupement Patronal Haïtien, challenged by the persistence of the multidimensional crisis which continues to bereave families, suffocate the national economy and impoverish the vast majority of our fellow citizens, are launching a real cry of alarm to the political actors of our country with a view to resolving their differences without delay and to rally, if they have not already done so, to the signatories of the political agreement of December 21, 2022, the ultimate objective of which is to lead to the holding of honest, transparent and fair elections.

"[..] The hour is serious and the Nation cannot wait any longer! The undersigned hereby make the solemn commitment to continue to support the political agreement in question, with a view to engaging the country without further delay in an electoral process and to support, through their representatives, the implementation of the reforms which will be carried out and the institutions that will be created to achieve the objective. In this same perspective, the undersigned encourage all their fellow citizens and all the living forces of the Nation to support the patriotic work of the High Transitional Council in the fulfillment of its mandate to promote an inclusive dialogue aimed at facilitating the restoration of democratic institutions in the country.

The undersigned also launch an urgent appeal to the members of the Haitian diaspora to join their voices and their efforts to those of their fellow citizens living in the country, in order to encourage and support with all their might this citizen movement towards the recovery of our common homeland, in the grip of an unprecedented crisis and suffering. The Nation will be grateful to them !

It is clear today, not without sadness but with the sense of reality that inspires us all as entrepreneurs, businessmen and women, that the glaring weakness of our institutions has once again led to the Haitian Government to invite its foreign partners to provide it with their assistance in order to help it fulfill its sovereign function and ensure the safety of lives and property seriously undermined by the proliferation of increasingly violent armed gangs, which constitutes, as we all know, a powerful obstacle to any attempt to normalize public life and to the holding of democratic elections and the revival of the national economy.

The situation is serious ! We urge all of our fellow citizens, and more particularly politicians, economic and intellectual elites and all of civil society in our country, to demonstrate understanding, realism and wise patriotism, with a view to transform this new foreign assistance for the restoration of security, the last, into an opportunity to support the effective and lasting reconstruction of our republican institutions, so that our Nation is finally able to face its challenges and mishaps of all kinds on its own. The national sovereignty to which we all aspire, including our ability to live together in security, to resolve our conflicts without recourse to violence and to promote free enterprise and job-creating investment, will indeed only be possible with strong and effective institutions. It is our duty, politicians, entrepreneurs, intellectual elites of this country, to overcome our sterile quarrels, our narrow interests, to offer the overwhelming majority of our people, who can no longer suffer, a future better, full of dignity and hope. This will constitute, we are convinced, the only realistic way for this ultimate recourse to a foreign presence to be the last in our history !

We must all remain aware that the road ahead will be long, strewn with pitfalls, challenges and setbacks, which should never discourage us or even distract us from our collective dream. It is in this sense that we wish today to reaffirm our unshakable determination, as responsible members of the Private Business Sector, to contribute to the profound and lasting changes which today prove to be essential to the harmony and well-being of -being of the Haitian people."
