Haiti - Cap-Haitien : Earthquake / tsunami simulation exercise (SIMEX)
Friday, May 12, 2023, an earthquake / tsunami simulation exercise (Simex) took place in Cap-Haitien. This exercise consisted of a large-scale evacuation in 9 schools located in flood-prone areas in the North department. This exercise allowed participants to practice emergency protocols for crisis situations.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) is proud to announce that three evacuation centers have been activated this year, compared to two the previous year, thus guaranteeing the safety and well-being of all students and school staff concerned. She worked closely with local authorities, schools and families to ensure an efficient and incident-free evacuation.

Preparation and coordination are the keys to disaster management. Thanks to these regular exercises and our solid emergency plans, the actors of the National Risk and Disaster Management System (SNGRD) are better prepared to deal with any emergency situation.

The DGPC wishes to thank all those who participated in this simulation exercise, "in particular to Geo Hazards International an American non-profit organization which provided funding, as well as to the other partners and volunteers who worked tirelessly. Their commitment and support are invaluable."
