Haiti - Insecurity : Escalation of unprecedented violence in the commune of Carrefour

Jude Edouard Pierre, Town Hall of Carrefour informs the public in general, the crossroads in particular, that an important meeting was held around the unprecedented escalation of violence that has occurred in the town with : the former Minister of interior Raynaldo Brunet, former deputies Elie Blaise and Jacques Bovil, former mayor Yvon Jérôme, the Mayor's chief of staff, Emmanuel Hyppolite Jean, the director general of the town hall of Carrefour, Ykervens Fils Aimé, entrepreneurs, notables, pastors, catholic and voodoo priests of the commune.

All the participants expressed their deep concerns about the unprecedented escalation of violence that has occurred in the town since May 30, when clashes took place between members of the "Ti Bwa" gang and agents of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) causing 3 deaths including a policeman. This situation has paralyzed public transport and the operation of businesses, schools and public institutions.

While deploring the loss of human life recorded, the municipal administration and civil society have mobilized to allow a return to public order. The town hall gives its full support to the Carrefour police and asks armed civilians to lay down their arms and withdraw from the peaceful neighborhoods of Bizoton, Diquini and Thor so that life can resume normally in the commune.

The Municipal Council associates its voice with those of the population and the leaders of the Carrefour Police to ask the High Command of the PNH to strengthen the police station of the commune in order to allow the police to fulfill their mission.

The City Council is appalled by this escalation of violence and calls for calm while saluting the courage of the police who spare no effort to defend the commune.
