Haiti - Economy : Inflation continues to increase +1.7% in March 2023
For the month of March 2023, (latest data available) inflation remains high and continues to rise showing a monthly increase of 1.7% and a year-on-year increase of 48.3%, against 1.3% and 48.2% for the month of February 2023

The year-on-year increase observed in February 2023 is the result of in particular consumption functions, the most important of which are:

"Food products and non-alcoholic beverages": +2% over one month and 48.1% over one year;
"Clothing and footwear": +1.3% over one month and 44.7% over one year;
"Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance": +2.0% over one month and 44.9% over one year
"Health": +2.0% over one month and 45.3% over one year;
"Transport": +0.4% over one month and 108.1% over one year;
"Miscellaneous goods and services": +1.4% over one month and 43.2% over one year.

Products with higher annual inflation:
Power:
Rice (on average 58.9%), meat (on average 64.5%), milk (on average 42.9%), edible oil (76.6%) and sugar (on average 66.2%) .

Clothing and footwear:
Dress (54.0%), shirt (56.6%), men's pants (47.6%), shoes, sneakers (52.0%) and sandals (54.4%)

Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance:
Living room furniture (56.9%), dining room (59.1%), generator (74.1%) and laundry soap (52.8%).

Health:
Medicines (45.8%) and glasses with corrective lenses (58.6%).

Transportation:
Petrol and diesel (129.4%), daily transport (121.7%).

Miscellaneous goods and services:
Toilet soap (54.6%).
As had been the case for several months, a greater price increase was observed for imported products, ie 57.8% year-on-year compared to 42.3% for local products.

General index: 48.3% over one year and +1.7% over the month of March 2023

Food and non-alcoholic beverages: month +2.0%, year 48.1%
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: month +1.0%, year 28.7%

Communication: month +1.1%, year 26.9%
Leisure: month +0.8%, year 30.0%
Education: month () year 11.2%
Restaurants: month +0.8%, year 46.5%
Miscellaneous goods and services: month +1.4%, year 43.2%

CPI by geographic region:
All geographical regions contributed to the increase in inflation in March 2023. However, the variation in the South is the largest with 49.1%

Metropolitan area: year +47.9% (+1.7% over one month)
(Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Pétion-ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquet);

Rest West: year +48.6% (+1.7% over one month)
(South-East and West Departments without the metropolitan area);

North: year +48.2% (+1.5% over one month)
(North, North East and North West Department);

South: year +49.1% (+1.9% over one month)
(Department of the South, Grande-Anse and Nippes);

Transversal: year +48.1% (+1.6% over one month)
(Department of Center and Artibonite).
