Haiti - Politic : Opening of the summit on the Haitian crisis in Jamaica (PM Speech)
Excerpt from the PM's speech at the CARICOM Summit :
[...] I came here on behalf of the government that I have the honor to lead, not to settle accounts and even less to reproach anyone. Some think that the exercise we are going to do here is useless and will not lead to anything more tangible, because we just did the same thing two weeks ago in Port-au-Prince and we cannot continue indefinitely. to negotiate and discuss. But I believe that whenever Haitians want to sit down to discuss country, you always have to be present.
Everyone knows that no lasting solution for Haiti can come from abroad, nor be imposed by others, whether from CARICOM or elsewhere. It is up to us Haitians to find among ourselves, by our own means, this common national project likely to unite us for a rebirth of this nation.
We did not come here to take dictates from anyone. We didn't come here to negotiate yet another new agreement. We are here to agree with compatriots who have the national interest at heart, on the next steps in the march towards the reconstruction of our democracy. We are among ourselves, with our CARICOM brothers, we can calmly tell each other truths face to face, without getting angry. [...]
