Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the Karibe Hotel, Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry, participated in the Political Forum launched by the High Council of Transition.

This forum aims to reach a consensus on the restoration of security throughout the national territory and to make the transition a success, recalled political scientist Gracien Jean, who presented the objective of these meetings and the expected results.

With more than 200 representatives of political parties, organized groups of civil society and the private sector, signatories or not of the agreement of December 21, 2022, representatives of the trade union sector, civil servants, members of the diplomatic and consular corps, the issue of security was widely discussed during this first day.

"Haiti has the skills required to apply the multi-sectoral approach to insecurity," declared Mirlande Manigat, President of the HCT, stressing "[...] the solution to the security crisis does not lie in the total support of the country and its institutions by the international community."

Participants intervened and were very critical of countries "friends of Haiti" which shows great generosity with Ukraine. Mirlande Manigat appealed to the international community, which "[...] is pouring so many billions of dollars elsewhere into projects with unforeseeable consequences, while Haiti, which dreams only of peace and freedom, is wallowing in the indifference of its friends always [...]"

For the HCT this first day was a success and recommendations were produced.

An opinion which is not shared by some of the dissatisfied participants who believe that the debate on security is not there, deploring the absence of a panel of experts, no concrete proposals in the short and medium term to eradicate the phenomenon of insecurity. Also deploring the absence of the Commander-in-Chief of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), of the General of the Armed Forces of Haiti (Fad'H), of the General Administration of Customs and of the Directorate of Immigration involved in the area of security. Several political parties were conspicuous by their absence GREH, LAPEH, MOPOD, OPL, "Pitit Desalin", PHTK, UNIR, Fanmi Lavalas to name but a few.

The Montana agreement office considers that this forum is "a maneuver to pass as signatories all the participants who will sign the attendance list"

The inter-Haitian dialogue continues this Wednesday, May 24, 2023 (last day) on constitutional and electoral reforms, good governance and economic and social issues.
