Haiti - Social : Presentation of certificates in civic education to a hundred of young people 12/10/2011 17:04:59 The ceremony of presentation of certificates took place to the Pastoral Center of Youth to the Aviation, locality of the town of Jacmel. Several important people took part in this activity, including officials of the various beneficiary schools, parents and representatives of other institutions. Nikenson Saint-Jean, vice president of CRED, at the head of a delegation coming from Port-au-Prince traveled to Jacmel in order to make the distribution of certificates. In an interview with the local press, the Vice-President explained the importance of this training aiming to supplement the education received by students in their school, focused mostly on writing, mathematics and other... Mr. Saint Jean, recalled that the CRED promotes a more comprehensive training, in order to enable young people to become true citizens by teaching them the concepts of right and duty. In his speech of circumstances, Ademar Jean, one of the students of the College of Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours, speaking on behalf of all other schools benefiting from the project, thanked the two institutions that have considered important to realize that training for young people in the region. Hoping that this initiative is not like a letter sent by mail and that a follow-up will be done. Nikenson Saint-Jean, stated that his institution wishes to initiate this series of training across the country to sensitize the officials of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) to insert in the curriculum, at the level of fundamental, courses of education and civic instruction to consider them as matter that allow to develop among the youth a sense of patriotism and for awareness the young people to engage in the affairs leading to a change in Haiti. He stressed that the country is now undergoing an important time in its history, with the free education program launched by the President Michel Martelly, hoping that the country's authorities are taking steps to develop in young people, particularly those aged between 14 and 17, the civic responsibility. Mr Saint Jean lamented a loss of values in Haitian society. "Today the rise of the Haitian bicolor (the flag), the love of the Fatherland, the solidarity etc... Do not have a very great significance for our youth" Nikenson Saint Jean explained that the disinterest of youth, is the result of their exclusion by the Haitian authorities, while they represent 60% of the population. "The youth of today constitute a burden for the country's leaders, however, they could be the engine of change in Haiti" insisted the vice president of CRED.
