Haiti - FLASH migration : The USA will accept asylum applications from Haitians in Mexico
On Friday, July 28, 2023, in an effort to clear the border on the Mexican side, the United States Government announced that it will accept asylum applications from nationals of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela that are already in Mexico.

The announcement is the result of an agreement with the Mexican government that comes days after a meeting between a US delegation and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement. .

As part of the agreement, President Obrador promised to create a "multipurpose international space" in southern Mexico (without giving details) to provide new asylum and employment options for the country's most vulnerable people, said the White House without specifying what this "space" will consist of.

Earlier this month, the Joe Biden administration had already offered López Obrador a new immigration program to ease the migratory pressure that the Mexican government has been facing for several years.

To seek asylum in the United States, anyone must prove that they face persecution because of their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social or ethnic specific group.

Currently, the main way to apply for asylum in the United States is through a mobile application called "CBP One", which allows you to make an appointment with US authorities to submit an asylum claim. This app only offers 1,250 appointments per day, which means the available places fill up quickly.
