Haiti - Project «Tanbou» : Towards the construction of the Fabrique des arts
The French Development Agency (AFD) and the French Institute are starting a new partnership in favor of artists and cultural operators in Haiti

Led locally by the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL), the "Tanbou" (Drum) project aims to build the Fabrique des arts, a new place dedicated to the living arts which will house several cultural associations.

As part of this project, the French Institute of Paris (IFP) will implement a professionalization component for Haitian artists and cultural actors, who will constitute the ecosystem of this Arts Factory.

Haiti is home to an exceptional pool of talent who strive to mobilize the few resources at their disposal to bring their art to life. These talents are just waiting to be accompanied to reach their full potential and contribute to the development of cultural and creative industries in Haiti.

The "Tanbou" project aims to meet this need by building the capacities of Haitian cultural actors. The access of women, young people and vulnerable populations to these programs will be privileged. The professionalization of artists and cultural operators internationally with IFP

From 2023 to 2025, the French Institute of Paris will pilot two actions aimed at supporting the professional development of Haitian artists and cultural operators, thanks to a grant of 500,000 euros.

A first program, will allow the reception of young Haitian professionals within various cultural institutions in France and in the Caribbean: festivals, biennials, theaters, production studios, etc. Within these structures, Haitian professionals will be able to acquire new experience, particularly in the fields of cultural engineering, production and administration, or even in performing arts.

A second program of tailor-made residencies, lasting 3 to 6 months, will support the specific development of projects by artists and cultural actors, thanks to the personalized supervision of reception structures which will support the construction of projects and networking with international professionals. Sharing experience and strengthening networks

The professionalization component led by the IFP will pay particular attention to strengthening the ecosystem of the new Arts Factory and will target in particular the key cultural players associated with the development of this structure. Thus, the FOKAL Foundation, the Art Center and the Association Quatre Chemins will be associated with the identification of the beneficiaries of the activities.

Upon their return to Haiti, the beneficiaries of these programs will be able to contribute to feedback in connection with other artists and operators, within the framework of the Fabrique des arts. The "Tanbou" project will thus promote the dissemination of good practices in the CCI sector in Haiti while creating bridges between French and Haitian cultural institutions. In doing so, the project will also contribute to strengthening cultural ties between France and Haiti, as called for by the French Ambassador to Port-au-Prince, Fabrice Mauriès.
